Iceland, Indiana, Ireland & the Important Intersections In-Between

If you’ve been around here for a little while, then you already know how much I love alliteration & ampersands. Together with metaphors & photographs, this is how my brain catalogs & captures the memories & moments that make-up this wild journey of brave becoming. Today’s is inspired by the letter β€œI”.

From the beginning of April to the middle of May I traveled approximatel 15,000 miles by car, airplane, bus, uber, on foot and in a camper van beneath the northern lights. I vacationed to Iceland with my husband and 19 year old study abroad college kid, road tripped across the midwest between Massachusetts and Indiana to visit 12 colleges with my 17 year old son and his 13 year old little sister, and I was gifted a surprise a 48-hour trip to Ireland for Mother’s Day where I got to meet my daughter’s study abroad Irish family and lay to rest the ashes of my Irish Father who passed away a year ago.

In-between and along the way I’ve been surrounded by lava fields & black sand beaches; Lake Erie on the Canadian border, Niagara Falls and lost lagoons in the middle of Iceland; volcanic and glacial topped mountain peaks in Iceland and the early spring woodlands of Pennsylvania’s Appalachian Mountains; barren farm fields not yet planted across the midwest, and lush green rolling pastures in Ireland.

I’ve worn snow, summer and rain gear. I’ve seen ice, rain, wind, snow, rainbows and sunshine. I passed thousands of sheep, cows and horses. I’ve eaten shark meat, Philly cheestakes, Irish pudding, Iceland hot dogs, smoked sardines, the best fish & chips I’ve ever had, and way more fast-food than I would like to admit.

Along with a good dose of insomnia and indigestion (ha!) there has also been an abundance of intersection and integration that has felt really important. I wish I could capture it all, but there is no way I could in one blog post. For I’m cherishing these memories and the knowledge that my marriage & motherhood, brain & business, hope & healing is invigorated and inspired because of it.
