Butterflies Rest When it Rains

“Butterflies rest when it rains, because it damages their wings. It’s okay to rest during the storms of your life. You’ll fly again when it’s over.”

If you’ve been around here for a while then you’ll remember that a few months ago I declared myself to be an MFB (mother f’in butterfly). A bold & personal statement, said in the midst of realizing that my growing pains were me breaking out of my own personal chrysalis after a 5-year journey of becoming, defined by major transitions and transformations that had happened across almost every part of my life.

Since that day I’ve been seeing things differently, paying attention, and making sure I admire these new wings in this new season.I went ahead and claimed “wings” as my 2025 word of the year ~ and Wicked’s “Defying Gravity” as my personal anthem. We put a few subtle butterflies on the building and have a few butterfly items in the shop ~ like your favorite wing earrings by @comertengstudio .

So when the first few months of 2025 began sadness with grief in my dad’s passing, I felt like these wings became heavy and more fragile than I realized. They haven’t quite been able to fly. And so just like this card says, I’m remembering to rest during the storms, and that, like you, we’ll fly when the storm is over.

Rest is not at all easy in the reality of life as an entrepreneur or in the work of running a small business ~ especially one as personal and community centered as this one. However, I am beyond grateful for the foundation we have built here, and for the wings of the collective that are keeping us flying in the midst of the storm.

This is the Bird & Bear Collective, where we brave the wilderness together ~ in our similarities and differences ~ and through our own journeys of becoming. We are brave and wild Birds, Bears and some of the fiercest MFBs there ever was.

Let’s remember that and keep on keeping on as we nest & rest, explore and SOAR.
