Today it seems more and more  people are eating better, exercising, and assuming a holistic approach to health. On the other hand, we have lifelong habits that are hard to break and we often don’t know where they come from. A fundamental truth is that humans need to feel safe. Knowingly or unknowingly we develop thought, behavior and emotional patterns that our mind and body believe will keep us safe. Finding out where these patterns came from is not just mere curiosity, it can be the answer to many of our problems. We often blame others, hormones, work etc. for a myriad of health problems. We don’t often ask our doctors or even ourselves if our health problems, behaviors, patterns, or emotional triggers come from past stressors or even trauma.

Why do you reach for the ice cream or Oreos? Why do you start cleaning the house as soon as you have to start working on a presentation? Why are you avoiding being social? Are you defensive, irritable, are you a people pleaser? In today’s culture these avoidant, deflective habits may not raise eyebrows but they certainly don't make us feel well. Understand the mindbody safety connection and how it relates to everything from everyday life stressor to trauma and what you can do about it through EMDR.
