A Reminder
A reminder from a Bird & Bear who…
1. went into labor on Christmas Day (17 years ago) and didn’t even realize she was in labor until after all of the presents were opened, dinner was served and the dishes were done…
2. who had an emergency appendectomy 3 days before Christmas (13 years ago) while 3ish weeks postpartum with her 3rd baby, who hadn’t yet had a bottle, and who had to learn how in the middle of the night, in the middle of a Boston hospital emergency room…
3. who picked up the keys to the Bird & Bear building on Christmas Eve (5 years ago) when she was planning Christmas as a mom of 3, in the middle of a pandemic, while caring for a father battling cancer and chasing a wild dream on its journey from a backyard barn to a downtown brick & mortar…
Take care of yourself Birds & Bears and remember that you haven’t ever navigated this exact season before. No one is carrying exactly what you are, in your head, heart, season or home, but have faith that you are uniquely equipped to brave it.
I have had to personally give myself and many of you this pep talk over the last few weeks. This time of year is a lot. I’ve handed out more gold wand sparklers & stickers than I can count.
Even still the overwhelm can sneak in, but then I remember…
Mary riding on a donkey, having a baby in a barn, laying her newborn in a feeding trough manger because there was no room at the inn.
The shepherds keeping watch over the sheep, when bright lights shone all around them, and the angel appeared telling them to not be afraid, because there was good news.
The Magi who followed the star with their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
The promise and anticipation of advent’s celebration of the love, hope, joy and peace that is Christmas.
The lights are bright and the carols are playing so loudly this season at Bird & Bear.
Stop in for a dose of cozy and calm, while we help to lessen your burdens a bit as we share a hug and the joy of this season together.
