Creative Writing with Jean Robison: The Personal Essay

Join Author & Creative Writing Teacher Jean Robison for this Creative Writing Workshop: The Personal Essay

The personal essay is a short, highly descriptive literary piece that sketches in detail a slice- of-life, photographic moment in time. For the subject of the personal essay, writers will relive a special memory, such as a meaningful moment in time spent time with someone special; an event that was impactful or significant in some way; or a rare, sweet moment while you were by yourself and you found peace and acceptance. Writers will choose an event that takes place over the course of a day, a half day, or even an hour, and to dig deep into the details.  Jean will encourage writers to bring the reader into the scene as it unfolds and to use vivid imagery, that which one can see, touch, taste, hear, and smell.
