Creative Writing with Jean Robison

Join Author & Creative Writing Teacher, Jean Robison for this Creative Writing Workshop: Writing a Haiku.

Haiku is an ancient Japanese form of poetry that follows a structure of three lines and a pattern of five, seven, and five syllables. This form of poetry focuses on an in-the-moment, close observation of nature to evoke a certain mood, such as peace, the calm after the storm, or even edgier emotions such as anxiety or sadness.

Jean will share a selection of haiku to read and discuss, followed by an introduction of specific poetic and literary devices that are most helpful when writing this form of poetry, such as imagery, word choice symbolism, and theme. The class will then write a haiku (or two, or three) of their own, with the option of sharing their work with the class at the end.

Jean is a skilled writing teacher of nonfiction, fiction, and poetry. With a Masters in English and 15 years’ experience as an English Language Arts teacher, Jean is passionate about writing and literature.
