Happy September 1st!
Last week I brought my daughter back to college. This weekend I cheered at my first soccer tournament of the new season. Yesterday my other two kids started school, and the day began with a breakfast for my son and his friends kicking off their senior year. Today we flipped the calendar from August to September.
While the new year has already begun for my people, today kind of feels like my official day 1.
I sat in my quiet house and then went for a long walk. I got caught in torrential rain and thought about turning around. I decided to keep going, feeling the rain wash away the back-to-school cobwebs and refresh my head and heart in advance of all that’s to come. (I definitely could have done without the puddle splash to the face from the cement truck that flew past me).
I then drove to the farm and bought myself the biggest mum plant I could find. A gift to this mum on her first official day of the new season.
I will hold onto as much of summer as I can, but I sure do love September. Bring on bouquets of freshly sharpened pencils, crisp new notebook pages and a return of routines, refreshed momentum and a readiness to brave it all.
Happy September 1st Birds & Bears!
