A Bird & Bear Love Story
During the pandemic, in the spring of 2020, we invited my brother to take a break from his city apartment and come shelter in place with us for Memorial Day weekend at our little backyard farm.
His weekend stay turned into a week, then a month, and then the entire summer & fall of 2020. He was the epitome of my kids’ “funcle” bringing an extra dose of games, conversation, laughter, and friendly competition to our family’s Camp Quarantine days of 2020.
That September, a local friend and neighbor visited the Bird & Bear’s pop-up shop in our backyard barn. She had braved a very difficult divorce a few years prior, and came to the barn to buy her and her daughters some of our Love Better sweatshirts. She told me she needed the reminder to love herself and her girls better.
We shared a swing ride and a cry as she shared her sadness and worry that she may never meet anyone. How in the world was she ever going to meet anyone in the days of social distancing and masks?
And that’s when my Bird & Bear dot connecting superpowers ignited. I told her I thought I may know someone…the brother who happened to be staying with us. I told her I thought he would be a good for a casual first date ~ no expectations ~ but a chance to pull the bandaid off and see how it felt.
They went on their first date, September 25th 2020 … and they were married this past Friday in a ceremony that made everyone cry, followed by an epic party that celebrated their fairytale love story and the new beginnings for Matt, Filipa and the girls.
As our childhood friend Chris & Officiant for the wedding shared during the ceremony … “together, you have grown roots, and laid the foundation of a loving, supportive, and complete family, a family that will continue to grow together, and love better, with each and every day.”
As the official matchmaker, big sister, friend and new auntie I could not be more happy for my brother and my friend. Thank you for you trusting me, for your brave and open hearts, and for giving all of us the opportunity to celebrate one of the best things Bird & Bear has ever been a part of.
