# of days we've been in shelter ~ # of steps between people ~ # of new cases ~ # of deaths ~ # of recoveries ~ # of days left in school ~ # of zoom calls ~ # of hours of digital learning ~ # of meals we have cooked ~ # of times we've emptied the dishwasher ~ # of miles we've walked ~ # of pages we've read ~ # of projects we've completed ~ # of board games we've played ~ # of puzzles we've finished ~ # of shows we've watched ~ # of times we've worn jeans ~ # of packs of chicken we are allowed to purchase ~ # if toilet paper rolls on the shelves ~ # of masks ~ # of new grey hairs on our head ~ # of days until we reopen ~ # of things we've cancelled ~ # of decisions that need to be made ~ # of moments we'll never get back ~ # of moments that truly matter. We could go on and on and on and on...


So. Much. Counting.


We can't decide. Are we utterly exhausted and done with the counting? Or does it actually help, and in some way we actually need it? Will we even remember the numbers, or will they be engrained in our memories forever?
